This summer ACE Bakery and Style at Home Magazine invited you to create the perfect picnic. ACE provided Style at Home with an ideal picnic menu in an article entitled "Summer Picnics". Author, Tanya Linton states, "When it comes to picnic fare, a supersize sandwich is a must. And you can't create the ultimate sandwich without delicious bread." We, at ACE certainly agree.
The collection of recipes found in "Summer Picnic" include:
-Baguette Flatbread with Tuscan Pesto
-Summer Radish, Cucumber and Italian Parsley Salad
-Israeli Couscous Salad with Spring Pea Mix
-Gingered Limeade
-Italian Flag Tramezzino on Calabrese
-and deliciously for dessert, Baby Cakes
These recipes, and many others, can be found in More from ACE Bakery, the second cookbook written by ACE Bakery's co-founder, Linda Haynes.
Linda Haynes' tips:
Top secret ingredient: The key to keeping your bread from getting soggy is in the spread. Hummus, mayonnaise, mustard or tapenade will protect your bread from drippy culprits like tomatoes and cucumbers.
Pack and go: To avoid any sandwich or salad mishaps, the best thing to do is pack up the fixings on their own to assemble your creations on site. Cut tomato slices also on site to retain freshness. Place condiments in containers and group all the fixings in separate tubs so you can make a killer sandwich effortlessly.
Minimize mess: Don't plan a menu that's dripping with sauces or mushy fillings. A picnic should be fun, where you do not need to worry about cleanup. Steer clear of sandwiches with lots of layers or fillings that will slip out or make eating awkward and messy.
Keep cool: It's so important to think ahead when planning a picnic menu. How long will you be outside before eating? What foods need to be kept chilled? Choose a meal that will stand up to time and heat. Avoid egg salad and mayonnaise-based sauces that spoil easily.
Enjoy!
