ACE supports our community

July 01, 2003.

In May 2003, co-owner Linda Haynes joined an illustrious group of chefs at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art serving their signature soups in handmade bowls designed and donated by local potters and ceramic students. Once again, ACE Bakery donated fresh-baked bread and rolls to accompany the soup. The event raised $17,000 for the Anishnawbe Street Patrol.

In June 2003, ACE Bakery joined 2,000 food lovers to support Second Harvest at the 13th annual Toronto Taste. Sixty-five of Toronto's finest chefs served their bite-sized delicacies at the event which raised $530,000 and enables Second Harvest to continue providing 11,000 meals each day to people in need. All enjoyed Fig Gelée with Quebec aged Cheddar and Proscuitto, served on ACE's new 10th Anniversary Organic White Oval and Plum Compote with Hermite Bleu on Raisin Walnut.

Also in June, Second Harvest organizers presented FIELD TO TABLE, a family festival at Toronto City Hall featuring delicious food and a bountiful organic market. ACE employees were among the volunteers who set up the tables and displays for the event. Co-owner Martin Connell acted as celebrity "chef" at Canada's largest salad bar feast.

One of ACE Bakery's founding principles is that business has a social responsibility to support the community that supports it. In addition to participating in over 100 fundraising events annually, ACE donates 10% of its pretax profits to food and nutrition programs that assist low-income families, finance culinary scholarships and support organic farming initiatives. The bakery also donates its surplus bread daily to a variety of local charitable food programs that feed people in need.

Here are some of the charitable and fundraising events to which ACE has recently contributed bread:

The Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf Harvest Dinner
Wine Aid at the ROM to aid Toronto's hospitality industry
North 44 Fundraiser in support of Second Harvest
Canadian Cancer Society's fall fundraiser, Harvest Moon
Power Ball for the Power Plant Gallery
Bowl 4 The Soul in support of Sunnybrook Breast Cancer Research
Foster Parent Luncheon for the Children's Aid Society of Toronto
Toronto Rehab's 14th Annual Gala
